Logan

I blinked my eyes open. It took a second to remember where I was and why. Curled up against my side was the sweetest, sexiest omega in the world. His arm was draped over my chest, his head nestled against my heart. I was surprised to find his sky blue eyes were already wide open, gazing up at me with affection and curiosity.

So it hadn’t been a dream after all. I really did wind up in this Christmas fairy-tale of a town. I’d met an incredibly funny, cute omega, spent all day searching for some silly rabbit’s foot with him, and then we’d… well, we’d slept together. And strangely, I didn’t feel a single ounce of regret over it, despite the fact that we were practically strangers, and it maybe wasn’t the smartest idea in the world.

“Hey you,” I greeted sleepily.

“Morning,” he smiled, brushing his finger across the day-old stubble on my jaw. It was such a small yet intimate gesture, and it made my heart swell with love.

Marlie was just so... perfect.

Perfect for me.

I quickly stuffed the thought away before I could linger on it any longer.

Marlie bit his bottom lip and looked away. Then he pried himself from my embrace and scooted to the opposite side of the bed, where he slumped his head down on his pillow with a sigh. The rejection hurt my feelings a little, I had to admit.

“Everything okay?” I asked. But then I remembered: the condom broke, and Marlie was probably very worried about that.

This was my fault. I should’ve put the brakes on last night. But the desire—no, the need—to be inside him was simply too overpowering, and I couldn’t resist it. His presence had scrambled my brain and I wasn’t able to think rationally.

“Well...” Marlie sighed. “It’s just that, as you know, I’m cursed with bad luck now.” He glanced at me shyly. “So although I’m extremely happy that I met you, and that we’ve, well... gotten intimate… I’m afraid to trust it. I’m afraid to let myself feel it too much. Because... somehow I just know it’s all gonna be ripped away from me.”

I pulled in a surprised breath. My heart fluttered at Marlie’s words.

I wasn’t sure what to say, so I just laid there with my mouth hanging open stupidly.

“I mean, it’s pretty obvious that whatever this is—” he waved his hand to demonstrate—“I know that it won’t, or can’t last. You don’t even live here. You’ve got your own life to get back to. And I assume once we find the rabbit’s foot—or even if we don’t—eventually you’ll leave. Besides, I’m sure you’ll get sick of all this crap. The freak accidents, fires, me tripping every five seconds, all of the bad luck that’s sure to rub off of me and onto you... hell, you’ll be lucky to leave Vale Valley alive if you stick around with me for too long—”

“Marlie,” I said, propping myself up on my elbow to face him. “You’re rambling. Hey, I like being here with you.
